Outreach
First UMC New Iberia is proud to reach out and reach in! Our church has a long history of service to our community and congregation.
Since Hurricane Rita in 2005, we have been involved in clean-up and recovery. Many have come from all over the nation to give time, prayers, and gifts to our hurricane survivors. “Jimbalaya News” updates information on our continued work in hurricane recovery.
Recent community outreach events have included community service appreciation banquets; National Guard appreciation banquet; planting flowers in City Park; building ramps for the handicapped; Christmas in April participation; involvement with the men’s shelter facility; donations of food, diapers, and money to SNAP; and providing meals weekly to Drug Court and Juvenile Drug Court families.
Many community groups seek our facilities as sources of comfort. We support and host several groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous, Emotions Anonymous, Al-Anon, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Weight Watchers and others.
First UMC also provides community fellowship every week through exercise groups, line dancing, senior friends art classes and much more.
